Hooded Vultures
are, as yet, not considered to be an at
risk species in the wild. Despite this fact
a strong captive population is kept just
in case the species should ever require
human intervention. Should an unknown disease
start killing a species it is usually necessary
to use captive birds for breeding as wild
caught birds cannot be known to be clear
                                    of the illness.
